The Los Angeles County HIV/AIDS Capacity Building Services for Communities of Color Program provides program monitoring and evaluation training to community based organizations who have County prevention or care contracts and whose client base is at least 50 percent people of color. In collaboration with the UCLA Center for HIV Identification, Prevention, and Treatment Services (CHIPTS), the program provides three different trainings. Each training consists of a PowerPoint presentation, printed materials and resources, hands-on exercises and interactive group discussions.

Training One: A Practical Approach to Program Evaluation

This one-day training provides participants a better understanding of the evaluation process and offers basic tools to design and implement effective evaluations of HIV/AIDS prevention and care services. This training includes hands-on experience in using appropriate tools for program evaluation.

Training Two: Survey Development Workshop

This half-day training provides participants with basic knowledge and skills to develop survey instruments for use in evaluating HIV/AIDS prevention and care programs. The workshop covers the following areas: identifying appropriate topics for different HIV programs and populations; skills and tools for developing appropriate questions to use in collecting information; and establishing protocols for implementing surveys.

Training Three: Using Microsoft Excel for Program Evaluation

This one-day training provides beginners with practical tools and resources to enable them to use Microsoft Excel for constructing a database, managing a database, and conducting data analysis for the purpose of evaluating HIV/AIDS prevention and care services. This training is conducted in a computer lab.
