AIDS Project Los Angeles is a leader among national, state and local organizations working to advocate for fair and effective HIV/AIDS-related public policy. The primary mission of the Government Affairs Division at AIDS Project Los Angeles is to advocate on behalf of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Working with legislators, nonprofit agencies, clients and grassroots activists, the Government Affairs Division addresses critical issues that impact the HIV/AIDS community at the national, state and local levels.

The Government Affairs Division organizes the following activities:

  • Grassroots trainings
  • Communications (press releases and online communications)
  • Policy position papers
  • Visits to Congressional offices
  • Informing and educating decision-makers at all levels of government
  • Public speaking and testimony
  • Working with coalitions of other HIV/AIDS advocates to achieve high-quality care, treatment and prevention services for people with HIV/AIDS and for those at risk for HIV/AIDS.

APLA is a founding member of AIDS Action, a national organization dedicated to the development, analysis, cultivation and encouragement of sound policies and programs in response to the HIV epidemic.
