La Toya Jackson Releases Michael Jackson Tribute Single
to Benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles
Proceeds from the re-release of “Home” will go to APLA, whose work Michael Jackson supported
Los Angeles, Calif., July 28, 2009 - Entertainer La Toya Jackson today released her hit single “Home” as a tribute to brother Michael Jackson, who died June 25 in Los Angeles. Proceeds from the sale of the single, which is now available on ITunes, will benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), whose HIV/AIDS programs Michael Jackson supported.
“We’re honored and humbled that our work can benefit from such a touching tribute to Michael,” said APLA Executive Director Craig E. Thompson. “He leaves behind a generous and compassionate legacy of support in the fight to end AIDS.”
The song, originally recorded in 2002, recalls La Toya Jackson’s childhood in a family whose members rocketed to musical fame first as a group and then individually. Jackson decided to release “Home,” from her as-yet-unreleased “Startin’ Over” album, as a tribute to her brother following his death.
“Michael had an incredible platform to bring attention to causes he cared about,” La Toya Jackson said in a statement. “HIV/AIDS has taken a tremendous toll on the entertainment industry, and Michael was passionate about making a difference.”
“During this difficult time, we felt the best way to honor Michael’s legacy was through two of the things he valued most: music and philanthropy,” added Bungalo Records President Paul Ring. “This is exactly what Michael would have wanted.”
“Home,” which was co-written and co-produced by La Toya Jackson and Jeffré Phillips, was released by Bungalo, Ja-Tail Records and Universal Music Group.
