Esquire Magazine Will Sponsor Benefit for Young Hollywood
West Hollywood, CA, January 10, 2005 –This year’s hottest Awards Night party for the young Hollywood set, “The Envelope Please,” will be held at The Abbey on Robertson Boulevard, dubbed “Oscar Alley,” on Sunday night, February 27, 2005.
Produced and underwritten for the fourth year by Abbey owner David Cooley and event producer Jeffrey Sanker, the event is a major fundraiser for AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), raising over $250,000.00 for the organization to date. APLA, now in its 22nd year, provides food banks, dental clinics and other urgent direct services for the HIV community. Esquire Magazine, the award-winning publication for men, is the major co-sponsor of the evening.
Guests will arrive on the red carpet as they enter The Abbey’s elegant dinner party setting where giant TV screens will broadcast a live-feed of the Academy Awards proceedings nearby. “Watching the Academy Awards is the biggest television event in the world and it provides a great opportunity to assist our community.” says David Cooley, a member of APLA’s Ambassador Council.
Esquire’s VP-publisher Kevin C. O’Malley calls the party “a great way for us to celebrate with all our friends in Hollywood while we help APLA support the urgent needs of the AIDS community.”
Although the posh dinner party will be hushed during the Awards telecast, The Abbey will transform its Finlandia Ice Bar into an after-hours dance party where celebrities can stop by after the telecast. Clear Channel Radio LA (KIIS-FM and STAR 98.7 FM), a major sponsor of the party, will play host to the music industry.
The pop artist Burton Morris will contribute an original painting as the visual symbol of the event, a star-studded red ribbon surrounded by klieg lights illuminating the Hollywood sky.
The black tie evening will begin with cocktails at The Abbey at 5 P.M. A buffet dinner, cocktails and wine will be served throughout the evening. The after hours dance party will follow the telecast, with proceeds to APLA, tables of ten will be available for contributions of $10,000, $5000 and $2000. Individual tickets begin at $250. All reservations may be made by calling (213) 201-1564.
