REGISTRATION HEATS UP FOR
THE NATIONAL AIDS MARATHON TRAINING PROGRAM

PROCEEDS BENEFIT AIDS PROJECT LOS ANGELES

Los Angeles -- Registration is in full swing for the National AIDS Marathon Training Program that begins on April 29. The 2,000 slots for this year’s program are filling up quickly, mostly due to the positive word of mouth from previous participants. Last year, more than 750 people completed the program and raised $2.6 million. Most were first time marathoners.

Developed by world renowned runner and marathon trainer, Jeff Galloway, the six-month physical conditioning program is geared to both beginners and experienced runners. The training program combines running with walk breaks to prepare participants to complete the October 2000 Chicago Marathon. Participants will receive round-trip air travel and hotel accommodations in Chicago, entry into the Chicago Marathon, and a complete training program including running coach, training materials and organized group runs.

The group runs start with three miles of running and walking and increase in distance each week. A Running Coach will be on hand to answer questions and give participants support and assistance. Each weekend, participants train with their "pace group" of other runners who share the same level of conditioning, whether fast or slow.

The program is not a competition. Everyone is welcomed regardless of their current level of physical conditioning. The minimum training commitment is just 30 minutes twice a week and a longer group run on the weekend. Expect to meet new people and make new friends while improving the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS.

Those interested in more information about the program can visit the AIDS Marathon website at aidsmarathon.com or call the National AIDS Marathon Training Program at (323) 993-1400. The deadline to register is April 21, 2000. The training begins on April 29, 2000.
