Los Angeles -- AIDS Project Los Angeles’ (APLA) Government Affairs Department is presenting a candidates forum on Thursday, March 2 from 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. at AIDS Project Los Angeles, 1313 N. Vine St., Los Angeles. The forum is sponsored by California HIV Advocacy Coalition - Southern California Region (CHAC/SoCal) and APLA’s Neighborhood Network.
The forum will feature candidates from the State Senate Districts 21, 23 and 25 (Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, Altadena, San Marino, Silver Lake, La Canada-Flintridge, Los Feliz, Temple City, Toluca Lake, Sun Valley, a portion of Los Angeles, Agoura Hills, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Westlake Village, a portion of Los Angeles, Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lynwood and Paramount, and portions of Compton, Long Beach and Los Angeles) and State Assembly Districts 42 and 45 (Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Century City, Hollywood, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Westwood, Central Los Angeles, Eagle Rock, Highland Park, Echo Park, Chinatown).
The candidates will discuss HIV/AIDS issues, present views, and take questions. This will not be a debate. The candidates will have 20 minutes to make a presentation and/or take questions and will not necessarily be speaking back-to-back.
“This will be an excellent chance for the community to discuss where the candidates stand on HIV/AIDS issues, as well as other issues important to the community,” said Herb Schultz, APLA Director of Government Affairs.
Neighborhood Network, a volunteer group staffed by APLA constituents, meets for updates on AIDS issues, holds face-to-face meetings with local, state and federal lawmakers to tell personal stories, discuss HIV/AIDS issues and urge policy makers to support responsible HIV/AIDS legislation and necessary funding.
CHAC/SoCal is a grassroots alliance of organizations, families and individuals that advocate on behalf of people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. CHAC/SoCal focuses on funding and policies that guarantee access, care and treatment, and prevention services that positively impact persons living with HIV/AIDS.
