Some members of the HIV/AIDS prevention community offer FREE training and technical assistance for those committed to working on prevention with positives. Academic credits may be offered for some of these courses. Please see the individual training centers listed below for more information.
Cornerstone Initiative

This California State Office of AIDS-funded program is intended to build the capacity of community based-organizations serving people of color. The two major components of this program include a two-day training covering the basics of program planning, development, and evaluation and one-on-one technical assistance services by prevention and evaluation specialists from AIDS Project Los Angeles. This training and technical assistance program will provide you with the necessary information needed to develop effective prevention with positives programs for your clients and local community.

AIDS Health Project

As an affiliate of the University of California San Francisco, one of the leading medical schools in the world, the AIDS Health Project also recognizes that quality client care begins with professionals who are well-trained. AHP trainings are interactive, challenging and thought-provoking. Their focus on practical counseling skills is based on the belief that both primary and secondary prevention goals are best served when providers understand a wide range of HIV-related issues. These behavioral and psychosocial issues include sexuality, sexual practice and the meaning of sex, grief and loss, substance use, and partner relations. Courses available include: HIV Basics and Beyond, Preparing A Client to Self Disclose (Supporting Client Disclosure of HIV Status), and Prevention for People Living with HIV. California STD/HIV Training Center

The California STD/HIV Prevention Training Center is an integral part of a national network of training centers offering dynamic continuing education. Clinical, behavioral interventions, partner services and program support courses are designed to enhance the STD/HIV knowledge and skills of medical, health, and community professionals. Courses offered include: Adapting Evidence-Based Research into Effective Behavioral Interventions, Bridging Theory and Practice: Applying Behavioral Theory to STD/HIV Prevention and Prevention Case Management. California Peer Educator Project

The California Peer Educator Project is a community-based training and support program for HIV/AIDS Peer Educators who are people of color or serve people of color communities. The project includes four levels of skills building workshops that are conducted in the San Francisco and Los Angeles/San Diego areas, individualized technical assistance, print resources and additional educational activities. CompassPoint Nonprofit Services is proud to announce an innovative, multi-level three year initiative designed to build capacity in California HIV Prevention Organizations serving people of color. Funded by the California State Office of AIDS, the new program POPTAP is using a two-pronged approach to enhance organizational effectiveness and to strengthen HIV prevention services throughout the state.
