SPECIAL REPORTS
The Hermana Project: A SISTA Adaptation
The Orange County Bar Foundation saw the need to create and implement the HERMANA Project which addressed the need for an intervention that is culturally sensitive to the needs of young Latinas in the correctional system. The HERMANA Project is a cultural adaptation of The SISTA Project which addresses the cultural/ethnic specific risk factors previously mentioned and imparts knowledge, cultural pride, and skills for Latinas to make healthier life choices and actively protect themselves from becoming infected with HIV/AIDS.
Accion Mutua/Shared Action (AM/SA) worked closely with OC Bar Foundation (OCBF) over a one year period providing the technical support to the process and outcome monitoring of the HERMANA Project. AM/SA took the lead in making sure that a comprehensive document was developed which included details of the components that were adapted along with the justification of said adaptations. This report also entails evaluation results from monitoring activities and analysis of client-level process data to demonstrate how OCBF was able to have positive outcomes comparable to the original researched SISTA intervention.
